Tumour Markers
Tumour markers are proteins or other substances that are made by both normal and cancer cells but at higher amounts by cancer cells. These play very important role in management of cancer patient. The tumour markers are used in diagnosis, prognosis, assessing tumour response, detection of residual disease after treatment and in some cases selecting an appropriate treatment (targeted therapy). These are present in blood, urine and in other body fluids. Most commonly used tumour marker are AFP, BHCG, CEA, CA-125, CA-19.9, PSA
