Tumour markers are proteins or other substances that are made by both normal and cancer cells but at higher amounts by cancer cells. These play very important role in management of cancer patient. The tumour markers are used in diagnosis, prognosis, assessing tumour response, detection of residual disease after treatment and in some cases selecting an appropriate treatment (targeted therapy).
