Imaging of various organs using radioisotopes is an important and essential aspect of cancer diagnosis and management. SSGCH provides these facilities to cancer patients and is the only such centre in Southern Maharashtra. The gamma camera used for this imaging modality detects the size and site of distance metastasis, anatomical abnormalities and functional defects. For example, bone scan is useful for identifying bony secondaries, MUGA scan for establishing cardiac function and perfusion scan of lungs helps in the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism.
