The Department of Surgical Oncology was initially guided by the stalwarts of the field, Dr. Prafulla Desai and Dr. Sultan Pradhan, Dr. Prafulla Desai and his team even performed the initial surgeries. Department is formed by team of Super specialist surgeons trained in renowned Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai.

This Department performs more than major 1000 & more than 500 minor surgeries complex in a year, surgical minor procedures and endoscopies. Surgeries are performed in the state-of-the-art Modular Operation Theatres. The supra major surgeries include head and neck surgeries with reconstruction, surgeries for cancer of oesophagus and stomach, hepatobiliary and pancreatic tumours, colon and rectal cancers and cancer of female genital tract like ovarian cancer and cervical cancer. The state-of-the-art facilities include latest generation Olympus video endoscopes for upper and lower gastrointestinal tract, genitourinary tract and the respiratory system. The Department boasts of our well-equipped, air- conditioned modular operation theatres with modern technology for safe anaesthesia and surgery. The post-operative care is provided by in house intensivist & trained I.C.U. sta. The patients are monitored round the clock on multichannel monitors. The I.C.U. is air-conditioned and equipped with advanced artificial ventilator, perfusion pumps and life support systems.A Tumour Board that comprises of all specialities presides over the planning of the rare and complicated cases, ensuring that the patient is treated in the best available manner.
